Another Fine Mess In Advertising.

Another Fine Mess In Advertising.

Don’t you just love those compensation adverts on TV? I do. But not for any of the right reasons…

Slapstick comedy has always been very popular; that’s why Laurel and Hardy are still so damn funny. And when one of those compo claim ads comes on I thoroughly enjoy the low-budget, abysmally reconstructed tale of someone’s accident. The acting is dire, the facial expressions are hilarious and the mournful voice-over leaves my ribs aching. Perhaps I am just sick… or More

‘This Isn’t Just Crap… This Is Total And Utter Crap!’

'This Isn't Just Crap... This Is Total And Utter Crap!'

Every so often an advertising campaign will come along which has a truly haunting quality about it. But when I say ‘haunting’, I do not mean in the poetic or romantic sense of the word. No, I am thinking more along the lines of a terrifyingly bad, chains-clanking-in-the-night, too-scared-to-sleep kind of ‘haunting’. That is the category in which I’d put the recent spate of Marks and Spencers food adverts. They are cheapness and nastiness dressed-up as poshness. And they borrow More

Stamping On Self-Esteem In Smokers.

There are some television adverts which are completely unnecessary. Do we really need to see the very latest panty liners and hear exactly how much absorbency they have? Must we bear witness to the next generation of soap powders and learn of their vastly improved recipes? And what is it with multiple blade razors??? First it was a twin blade, then a triple and now a quadruple. Why didn’t they just invent one that had more angled blades in More

Go Compare This With A Half-Decent Advert.

Television commercials are not as entertaining as they once were. It seems the days of genuinely funny adverts are pretty much gone. There have always been the crappy soap powder ones, but there was a time when quite a few were actually worth looking forward to.

And one of the very worst advertising campaigns I have seen (for quite a number of years) is the one for ‘Go Compare’. If you thought that the very worst commercials had already been More

Rise Of The Barry!

Rise Of The Barry!

Before advertising revolutionary Barry ‘Cillit Bang’ Scott came along—yes, I said revolutionary: the Che Guevara of the toilet cleaning world no less—Z list celebrities were considered the lowest of the low and people like Barry Scott, a level several hundred meters below Z list at the start of his bacteria-busting campaign, were classed in the same category as the stuff on the bottom of a stinky dog-mucked shoe.

But now who’s having the last laugh? Barry is, that’s who! Because More

Super Bowl, Super Bad

posted by admin in Uncategorized

So like most people really into advertising, I watch the American super bowl just for the adverts. I struggle though trying to understand touchdowns with all my manly mates, just to get to those few coveted minutes of premium airtime where you would expect to find the best advertising campaigns that you have seen all year. This year the struggle through American football was in vain, as the half-time show was more interesting then the ads. Put that on top with the new Thomas Cook ad which I expected so much from only to find out that ALL celebrities are total sell-out, yup, I am a little bit disappointed with the massive lack of creativity from advertising agencies lately. If any of you have seen anything outstanding then please let me know, because I am losing faith. Anyways, the point of this blog is to actually find the good ones out there buried beneath all this crap…wish me luck!
