The best ad series ever: compare the market…
Who doesn’t just absolutely love a Meerkat? My grumpy dad, that’s who, and maybe my Gran too, but she can barely see for three feet, so technically I don’t think she counts. Every single time the compare the market advert comes on TV – the one you MUST have seen with all the cute talking furry critters – he cringes and turns it over. “Animals can’t talk”, says, as if shaking off some ancient curse. “So it’s ridiculous.”
“Cars can’t free run either, dad,” I tell him. To this there is no answer. I remember, as he looks at me blankly but with a hint of venom, that he doesn’t know and will never know what free running is. I feel like saying “It’s Parkour…” but keep that to myself to. Keep the spite within. For now at least.
Me? I truly believe that as risky marketing campaigns go, the compare the market/meerkat ads are a sign that ads are becoming more fun and interesting. Finally, ads don’t have to be serious to make a big impact.
I hope it means more stupidity. Because, let’s face it, us adults need every excuse to behave like children…
